Facebook mentioned Thursday it pulled down more than 800 pages and accounts that posted sensational political content material for violating its guidelines in opposition to spam and “inauthentic behavior” ahead of the US midterm elections.
“The bulk of the inauthentic activity we see on Facebook is spam that’s typically motivated by money, not politics. And the people behind it are adapting their behavior as our enforcement improves,” wrote Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook’s Head of Cybersecurity Policy and Oscar Rodriguez, Product Manager in a blog post.
The social media large mentioned that it eliminated 559 Pages and 251 accounts for working afoul of its guidelines. Facebook mentioned that some of these accounts had been advert farms that posed as political debate boards. Others would use pretend likes and shares so their content material would present up increased within the social community’s News Feed.
Some of the accounts included conservative information websites resembling Right Wing News, which has more than three.1 million followers, and left-wing teams resembling Resistance and Reverb Press, in accordance with The New York Times.
